Is it lunacy?

full moon on ocean

Soon to be finished painting of full moon…maybe I will finish on the next full moon…

For centuries, most cultures of the earth have reflected on the full moon as a time when human behaviors and awareness are effected. There is long standing prevalent notion that the energy of the full moon is so powerful that many human beings become mad to varying degrees. From vampires and werewolves, to mania, insomnia, and depression. Having worked in the field of healthcare for over 30 years, I have witnessed and experienced many anecdotal stories that would support these beliefs, not to mention my own personal struggles with sanity which often have revolved around the time of a full moon.

For the sake of this blog, all those speculations will be left for the scientist and philosophers to investigate while the focus turns to an undeniable reality of the full moon…it’s breathtaking beauty and elegance. The mandala of the sky. To me the full moon represents man kind’s connection to the universe, supporting once again that all of life is connected to the whole. The “whole” being what is defined, sometimes limited by our individual belief systems. Every one of us operates out of our own personal lens. The lens is influenced by our religions, our heroes, life experiences…which include our upbringing and a myriad of other things that I will not list here, but, I think you get the point. There is one influence that we all experience, whether we acknowledge it or not, and that is the innate ability to connect to our inner spirit for guidance and comfort. That inner voice that is sometimes loud, sometimes soft, that many of us respond to even without consciously recognizing it. When we do intentionally focus on that “inner voice”, the lens changes and limitations fall away. There are many ways to connect to your inner voice, meditation being the most common and the most accessible. Although there are many avenues and teachers to help and guide us in this process the journey begins when we remove ourselves from the noise and chaos of the outside world and sit, or stand in quiet reflection.

I leave you today with my half finished painting of a full moon, all art work is available for sale. See the About page of this blog.
